Research::
  • Statistical Inference - Application to the fields of Medicine, Forensic Science, Biology, Economics and Business Administration.
  • Simulation - Use of Monte Carlo simulation techniques in order to evaluate and compare the performance of different estimation methodologies, mainly the bias, efficiency and robustness.
  • Group Testing (composite, compound, pool or batch tests) - New applications of composite sampling (compound tests) in clinical studies and in industrial quality control, incorporate the concepts of prevalence, sensitivity and specificity, and quantitative responses, in order to develop methodologies for saving resources in areas as diverse as hospital administration or expired validity goods management. Compound tests for classification (hierarchical and Array-based group testing methodologies) and estimation purposes.
  • History and Foundations of Probability and Statistics in the first half of the XXth Century, mainly the early development of Probability and Statistics in Portugal.
  • Teaching of Probability and Statistics in elementary, middle and high schools, primarily advising math teachers.
